"Jag har alltid trott på UFO : Att arkivera det okända och behovet av de enskilda arkivens källmaterial för ökad mångfald i historieskrivningen

Detta är en Master-uppsats från Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för ABM

SAMMANFATTNING: This thesis is the result of two years of study in archival science at the Department of ABM (archive, library, museum) at Uppsala University, Sweden. The purpose of the thesis is to highlight community archives, specifically how the community archive "Archive for the Unexplained" in Norrköping operates as a community archive and handles received documents and records of ufo-reports from UFO-Sweden. Our focus has been to study record- keeping and how the documents are made available to promote the possibility of transparency, research, and ar- chival retrieval. The analysis is divided into two parts: the archive and its internal archival structure, as well as the records. The analysis of the archival structure is focused on how the archive operates as a community archive based on the theory of Terry Cook's four paradigms, which aims to show how archives have gone from closed archives to open places for knowledge. The results of this thesis show how the Archive for the Unexplained as a community archive in contrasts to archives that operate in the official authority and fulfill a vital role in the paranormal field and how its material is primarily used for investigating Unexplained phenomena while it is providing a creative space for a narrative of a fictional and folkloristic nature. This is a two years master's thesis in Archival science.

"LUCK Lund Centre for the History of Knowledge

Welcome, Rasmus!

Posted by HISTORYOFKNOWLEDGE @LUND on

Rasmus Törnblom has been a doctoral student at the Department of History at Lund University since the autumn of 2021. In his thesis, he examines how experiences and expectations of “consensus” (samförstånd) in Swedish society during the 20th century have contributed to shaping a great narrative about a Swedish “spirit of consensus” (samförståndsanda). His purpose is to explore how the concept of consensus during the 20th century has been formulated and temporalized – placed in the past, the present and the future – in the Swedish public sphere in order to try to interpret why the spirit of consensus has ingested its long and strong position in Swedish history and cultural self-image during the 20th century.

His historical interest is in a broad sense oriented towards the emergence of modern society with a special interest in notions of future in historical time, labor market history and environmental history."

"Alien abduction

This role-play can be used with learners when covering the topic of aliens, for the practice and revision of narrative tenses or as a lead in to writing newspaper stories.

Author:
Richard Frost

Preparation

Half the learners will need a copy of the Student A worksheet each, and half the learners a copy of the Student B worksheet each.

Procedure

  • Draw a map of England on the board and highlight the fictional town of Huntingdugton. Tell the learners that it is famous for UFO (unidentified flying objects) sightings.
  • Give half the learners a copy of the Student A worksheet, and half the learners the Student B worksheet.
  • Ask learners to read the short newspaper story (this is the same on both worksheets) and ask them what happened on that particular night. Check everybody understands the story."
