Dear friend,I've been really concerned to hear of plans by the far-right extremist Rasmus Paladan to come to Wakefield.I wrote to the Home Secretary to stress that under no circumstances should Mr Paladan be able to enter the country. I also pressed the Government on this in the House of Commons today. You can watch this here: https://fb.watch/jpieokjQwb/.I am glad to hear that the Government have listened to my calls and prevented him from entering the country and coming to Wakefield.Throughout this time, I have been working with Police, local councillors, the West Yorkshire Mayor and community leaders in efforts to resolve this.Mr Paladan has made numerous racist and divisive statements about the Muslim community in the past. In Denmark, he has held a number of rallies, including public burnings of the Quran, which have caused division and unrest.Mr Paladan's rhetoric and views are completely unacceptable. He is only aiming to sow racism and religious hatred.I know this has been really distressing for many people across our city. Wakefield is a tolerant, accepting and inclusive city.
