"My name is Pete McDonnell - I'm a librarian and Associate Professor at Bemidji State University, in Bemidji, MN.  I'm very interested in Unidentified Anomalous Phenomenon (or UAP, also known as UFOs) and related anomalous phenomena, and am keen to share this information with others.

So, I've put together this hopefully-comprehensive resource to help you discover UFO-related archives, most of which are housed in academic libraries"

Ufo-arkivets ordförande missförstår USA:s militära roll - vill sprida information till diktaturer

“To be ‘as transparent as we can’ means nothing much,” says Clas Svahn, chairman for the Sweden-based Archives for the Unexplained, among the most comprehensive digital libraries for UFO sightings and investigations into them by governments worldwide. The military’s approach is particularly frustrating “when it comes to observations and reports that are made by Air Force and Navy pilots inside restricted airspace, since they most certainly will be seen as something that could threaten national security.”

“Now,” he adds, “UAPs will only be seen as a threat – and treated as that.”

"Others who follow the issue closely see it as nothing more than a play by the Pentagon to control a subject that should belong in the arena of scientific study – at the expense of proper oversight.

“It is clear that the Pentagon does not want any civilian interference in this,” says Clas Svahn, chairman for the Sweden-based Archives for the Unexplained, among the most comprehensive digital libraries for UFO sightings and investigations into them by governments worldwide. “This is a power struggle over who should have access to UAP information.”"

"Lots of people in UFO societies and the public in general are now feeling that they can discuss this without being put under ridicule," says Clas Svahn, chairman for the Sweden-based Archives for the Unexplained, among the most comprehensive digital libraries for UFO sightings and investigations into them by governments worldwide. "It's having very much a tangible impact, of course, when it comes to society and how we are dealing with the subject. I like that. That is something I applaud."

The effect is direct and twofold, Svahn says. Military pilots, who are often among the first to witness such phenomena due to the sophisticated equipment on board their planes, will now become much more likely to report incidents because the stigma is lifted from the subject. Indeed, the American report focuses heavily, if not exclusively, on unexplained sightings from military aircraft.

And, Svhan adds, the release of the report will certainly prompt other governments – most notably China and Russia – to become much more likely to declassify information that otherwise remains secret because of the legitimacy that the U.S. report has provided to the subject.

It will become "a lot easier for us in the future to get a report, to meet with people and to get them to talk because of this," says Svahn, who first began researching the subject in 1974."

University of Colorado producerade ufo-rapporter på 1960-talet

"The Pentagon is expected to release its findings of what it knows about unidentified flying objects, or unexplained aerial phenomena (UAPs), on June 25.

The University of Colorado produced similar government-commissioned reports on UFOs in the 1960s, likely with similar findings."

"CU Boulder has the complete Condon Report, called “The Scientific Study of Unidentified Flying Objects.” Edward Condon, a former physics professor, was given $300,000 to co-author a 1,000-page report between 1966 and 1968 for the U.S. Air Force.

Heather Bowden, head of Rare and Distinctive Collections at the University Libraries at CU Boulder, found his writing interesting.

“I found that Condon’s treatment of the topic was interesting and really broad-minded and compassionate to folks who were really excited about thinking that maybe there may be alien life contacting us,” she said."

"I have said it so many times before but I will repeat it once again: Without libraries and archives we have no history, only anecdotes, myths and hazy memories. Without archives and libraries serious and scientific research becomes very difficult and in some areas almost impossible. If we don´t learn from history we will continue making the same mistakes or once again trying to reinvent the wheel. AFU is our legacy to the future.
