Europeiska ufologer beundrar ufo-arkivet i Norrköping
"Jag satte mig vid ett bord med Giuseppe Santamaria, Marc Le Duc, Jerome Beau och Philippe Ailleris. Intresset, och beundran för, AFU:s verksamhet var stor men vi pratade om väldigt mycket annat också. Vid ett par tillfällen kom det fram deltagare som ville ha min signatur i en bok."

"WEIRD, WILD UFO SIGHTINGS FROM THROUGHOUT HISTORY"
"On December 9, 1965, in Kecksburg, PA, a large object streaked across the sky, seen by thousands in nearby counties and states. The object, described as a “clay acorn the size of a Volkswagen with Egyptian hieroglyphs running around the base,” crashed shortly outside of Kecksburg only to be immediately secured by soldiers. The military claimed that nothing had crashed or been removed, and that all reports to the contrary were false. Many associate the event with the Roswell UFO crash, going as far to dub it “Pennsylvania’s Roswell.”"
"Kentucky Air National Guard pilot Captain Thomas Mantell was sent to investigate a UFO sighted near Fort Knox on January 7, 1948. Mantell’s pursuit ended in flames—the pilot pursued the object at too high an altitude, blacked out from lack of oxygen and spiraled out of control. The government later revealed that the UFO was, in fact, another classified weather balloon from Project Skyhook. This explanation, however, did little to calm public nerves, and previous awe of the potential for extraterrestrial life began shifting to fear of an otherworldly hostile takeover."

Research Interests
Dr. Hayes is a historian, educator, instructional designer, and filmmaker. He completed his PhD in the Canadian Studies program at Trent University, for which his dissertation, "A History of Canada's UFO investigation, 1950-1995," won the President's Medal. His research interests include: UFOs and the supernatural, conspiracy theory, pseudoscience, and the history of the Canadian state and its relationship with its citizens."

"For decades, the Canadian government was investigating UFO sightings.
Matthew Hayes has spent the last year going through more than 15000 government documents on UFO sightings in Canada, using the Library and Archives Canada, which is available to the public. “It was pretty time intensive,” Hayes said.
“I was fascinated by the fact Canada had this investigation at all,” Hayes said. “For 45 years and in various capacities.”
Hayes is a Canadian Studies PhD student at Trent University in his fifth year. He has been featured on CBC Radio’s Ideas, Arthur Hour on Trent Radio, Qnet News, and the Peterborough Examiner because of his UFO research.
“I’m not really interested in explaining what UFOs are and how they work,” he said. “I come at this from a couple of different angles. History of science is one of them.”

"The University of Melbourne took a chance on drawing fire from academe's many critics when it put out a release last week celebrating its first student to gain a PhD in 'UFOlogy'. As part of his PhD thesis, Martin Plowman, a student in the school of culture and communication, investigated hundreds of UFO sightings and interviewed dozens of people around the world who claimed to have seen UFOs or been abducted by aliens.
Plowman was awarded the degree last Saturday but not before he gained headline attention in the media. Sceptics had a field day pointing to the strange ways and odd research topics of those inhabiting the Ivory Towers.
As part of his research, Plowman visited key sites in the history of ufology, including Roswell in New Mexico, crop circle hotspots in Wiltshire in England, and the Valley of Elqui in the Chilean Andes, and examined the links between UFO sightings and religion, politics, national security and popular culture.
"Ufology is one of the longest enduring subcultures of the past century but its roots can be found way back in ancient culture and religion," he says. "

“To be ‘as transparent as we can’ means nothing much,” says Clas Svahn, chairman for the Sweden-based Archives for the Unexplained, among the most comprehensive digital libraries for UFO sightings and investigations into them by governments worldwide. The military’s approach is particularly frustrating “when it comes to observations and reports that are made by Air Force and Navy pilots inside restricted airspace, since they most certainly will be seen as something that could threaten national security.”
“Now,” he adds, “UAPs will only be seen as a threat – and treated as that.”
