Cambridge University biologist and theologian Andrew Davison had just the right credentials to ask the question: what can we forecast regarding religious reactions to confirmation that we share our cosmos with intelligent aliens? Davison, who writes frequent editorials for our CTNS journal, Theology and Science, will publish a book on this topic later in 2022. The book? Astrobiology and Christian Doctrine."

i'm posting here as a member of the Scientific Coalition for UAP Studies (SCU; https://explorescu.org ). i do not speak for that group nor endorse it, but point out that both SCU and the harvard university "Galileo Project" ( https://projects.iq....du/galileo/home ), now joined by oxford and cambridge universities along with other citizen or public organizations, are approaching the topic of UFO (or, in the military nomenclature, UAP) as a serious, valid scientific research problem.

 

i will add that amendments proposed to the national defense authorization act (NDAA) for 2022 mandate the creation of an "office of UAP studies" or "anomaly resolution" to be jointly administered by the ODNI and DoD. you have no more certain measure of the seriousness with which this topic is taken by the US government than the fact that congress will require two rivalrous arms of the defense/intelligence establishment to collaborate in its study in order to "replicate any advanced characteristics and performance" of UFO -- in other words, to collaborate in the pursuit of weapons development.

 

my general question has to do with civilian surveillance and measurement that can produce evidence toward the purely scientific clarification of this issue. the question is not "are aliens among us?" but specifically how do these things behave, where do they appear, and what can be said about their physical and dynamic characteristics?"

"There have been all sorts of strange sightings in the skies over our county through the years.

Many of these otherworldly occurrences defy explanation and remain a mystery even today.

Here are a few of the recorded UFO sightings over Cambridgeshire.

Many of these entries are from the East Anglia UFO Group.

Isleham

In 1909, the Cambridge Evening News reported one of the earliest recorded UFO sightings in the county.

A Mr Dennis is reported as saying that he saw a floating light in the sky one Tuesday night. He said he watched the light proceed across the railroad and on to Fordham."

Ronald Hutton (born 1953) is an English historian who specialises in Early Modern Britain, British folklore, pre-Christian religion and contemporary Paganism. He is a professor in the subject at the University of Bristol. Hutton has written fourteen books and has appeared on British television and radio. He held a fellowship at Magdalen College, Oxford and is a Commissioner of English Heritage.

Born in Ootacamund, India Hutton’s family returned to England, and he attended a school in Ilford and became particularly interested in archaeology. He volunteered in a number of excavations until 1976 and visited the country’s chambered tombs. He studied history at Pembroke College, Cambridge and then Magdalen College, Oxford before becoming a Reader in history at the University of Bristol in 1981."
